The protective effects of Tanacetum parthenium extract on CCl4-induced myocardium injury in rats
Authors
Abstract:
Background and Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effects of Tanacetum parthenium extract (TPE) on lipid peroxidation and acute heart injury induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) in rats. Materials and Methods: In an experimental study, 30 male Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups (n=6). Two of the groups were normal and damage control groups, other 3 groups were damage groups treated with 40, 80 and 120 mg / kg of TPE for 14 days before being damaged by CCl4. At the end of the study we measured the activity of creatine kinase (CK-MB) isoenzyme and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), total cholesterol (TC), HDL-C and LDL-C in serum, as well as the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), and arylesterase (ARE) and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration, as lipid peroxidation index, in myocardial homogenates. Results: The results of this study showed that treatment with carbon tetrachloride significantly increased the levels of CK-MB, LDH, TC, LDL-C and MDA and decreased ARE, HDL-C, SOD and GPX (P <0.001) in a dose dependent manner. Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that TPE can be considered as a substance with various potential effects such as antioxidant activity and cardioprotective effects. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Tanacetum Parthenium Extract (TPE) on Lipid peroxidation, antioxidant enzymes, biochemical factors, and liver enzymes in the rats damaged by Carbon Tetrachloride (CCl4). 54 male Wistar rats were divided into 9 groups each consisting of 6 rats. Two of the groups were control groups (normal and damage control groups), 4 of them were expo...

Objective: Studies have demonstrated that carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) increases the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in many tissues including the kidney, heart, lung, brain, and liver. The major aim of the present study was to evaluate the protective activity of Tanacetum parthenium extract (TPE) in renal tissues of CCl4-intoxicated rats. Materials and Methods: Animals were divided ...
full textAntinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects of Tanacetum parthenium L. extract in mice and rats.
Oral administration of the feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) extract led to significant antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects against acetic acid-induced writhing in mice and carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats, respectively. These responses were dose-dependent (10, 20, 40 mg/kg, p.o.). Parthenolide (1, 2 mg/kg i.p.), the active constituent of the extract also produced antinociceptive a...
full textBeneficial Effects of Ocimum gratissimum Aqueous Extract on Rats with CCl4-Induced Acute Liver Injury
Ocimum gratissimum (OG) is known as a food spice and traditional herb, which has been recommended for the treatment of various diseases. To investigate the hepatoprotective effect of OG aqueous extract (OGAE), male Wistar rats challenged by carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4)) were used as the animal model of chronic hepatic injury. Significantly increased serum catalase and DPPH levels were detected ...
